Surgical Simulation

Abstract

A Surgical Simulator is a virtual environment that allows the training of surgeons in complex and advanced surgeries (e.g. Minimally Invasive Surgery).

Its development implies having a wide experience in two areas of research and development: interactive virtual environments and, above all, deformable models.

Knowledge in the latter area is essential since the greatest complexity in the development of Surgical Simulators lies in the realistic simulation of the biomechanical behavior of human tissues and organs.

Within this field, the LabHuman-I3BH of the Universitat Politècnica de València has a wide experience, both in research projects and in services to the business sector.
