The app, designed by the UPV and already available since June, receives the ITS Spain 2021 Award for the QR Single Ticket for Metrobus.
The app E-Mobil-ity, developed by initiative of the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA) through the Valencian Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in collaboration with the companies Passgo Technology and Logista, has been awarded the ITS Spain 2021 Award for the QR Single Ticket for Metrobus.
The application, available to any user since June 1, «allows to purchase a single ticket for any origin and destination in the metropolitan area of Valencia at the same cost as in cash», as explained Arcadi España, Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility of the GVA during the presentation ceremony, held together with the director of the Autoritat de Transport Metropolità de València (ATMV), Manuel Martínez.
For the awarding of the prize, the jury valued «the fact that it can be used with or without a ticket canceller on the bus, the application of different fare options depending on the trip, the simultaneous application to multiple operators, as well as the use of an external application integrated in the fare collection system».
Vicente Botti: «It is an application that is here to stay in the midst of the digitalization wave».
Vicente Botti, director of VRAIN and of the Computer Technology and Artificial Intelligence Research Group (GTI-IA) of the UPV, highlights that E-Mobil-ity «is an application that has come to make people’s lives more comfortable and inclusive, and to stay in the midst of the unstoppable wave of digitalization».
«Real sustainable mobility, intermodality, cashless and plastic-free, inclusive of people with disabilities … are factors of great impact,» he adds.
A project born in 2017 and generator of university-industry transfer.
E-Mobil-ity has its origins in 2017, the year in which the first contract was signed between the UPV and Passgo Technology, the company that owns the exploitation results of the application. Subsequently, for almost two years, the development of the app was carried out at the UPV, after which two of the workers hired under the project were hired by Passgo, thus fulfilling the objective of university-company transfer.
In the project -which continues to improve the app and its implementation in other geographical areas- work, on behalf of the UPV, Vicent Botti Navarro, Aída Gil Pérez, Agustín Espinosa Minguet, José Soler Bayona and Emilio Vivancos Rubio.
