VRAIN's mission is to advance artificial intelligence research while ensuring that AI technologies serve the interests of individuals, organisations, and society. The institute conducts research across the full spectrum of AI disciplines — from theoretical foundations to practical applications — with sustained emphasis on doctoral training and technology transfer to industry.
A defining aspect of VRAIN's research agenda is its commitment to Trustworthy, Ethical, and Responsible AI: the development of systems that are ethical, explainable, and unbiased, aligned with European values and societal needs. This multidisciplinary focus on the ethical, legal, and social dimensions of AI design runs across the institute's research groups and areas.
