At VRAIN, research in intelligent agents and human-centered AI focuses on multi-agent systems, agreement technologies, and the design of AI systems that operate effectively alongside people in socio-technical contexts.

Work in this area covers agreement technologies for agent negotiation and consensus, agent-based simulation platforms for urban mobility and smart city scenarios, and human-centered AI systems for human-machine collaboration. Platforms developed at VRAIN include SPADE and Magentix2, which provide infrastructures for building open multi-agent systems with applications in logistics, e-commerce, healthcare, and industrial automation.

Research also covers affective computing — systems that recognise and respond to human emotional states — and serious games that apply AI techniques to education and training contexts.
