Magentix2

Agent platform for open multi-agent systems

Abstract

Magentix2: Agent platform for open multiagent systems. Magentix2 is an agent platform for open multiagent systems. Its main purpose is to bring the technology of the agents to real domains: business, industry, logistics, electronic commerce, health, etc. The technological development in the areas of information technology and communications has posed new challenges and requirements for software systems. Computing is now often inherently conceived as a social activity. Multi-agent system technology has some features that stress its potential to support this new computing paradigm. Dynamic agent organizations, which can automatically adjust their own behaviour to make the most of their environment at any given time, are becoming increasingly important. Social factors in multi-agent systems organizations are also increasingly important in structuring interactions in dynamic and open worlds. Therefore, the main objective of Magentix2 is to develop technologies to cope with the (high) dynamism of the topology of the system and with flexible interactions, natural consequences of the distributed and autonomous nature of the components. In this sense, the platform has been extended to support interaction protocols and flexible conversations, and interactions between agent organizations. Furthermore, other important aspects covered by the Magentix2 platform are security issues. In this sense, a security model that incorporates low-level security mechanisms and confidence measures that complement classic cryptographic methods is being developed. Among other features, Magentix 2 incorporates a tracking service. This service allows agents to publish or subscribe to some events that match certain attributes, receiving messages from the platform when the event takes place (given they are subscribed). Further, Magentix2 includes an argumentation API that allows agents to participate in argumentation dialogues to reach agreements on the best solution to a problem that must be solved. Finally, Magentix2 incorporates the THOMAS framework, which enables users to easily manage the organisational and service aspects.
